Sensitivities of cell lines to rapamycin vary by up to three fold. A) Cells were treated with either control, or different doses of rapamycin and growth/proliferation was monitored using MTT assays. MTT readings after 48 hours are shown relative to control. B) Relative sensitivities to rapamycin are shown; these are the % reductions in growth/proliferation caused by 100 nM rapamycin. Data points represent means (+/- standard deviations) from five independent wells of cells within a representative experiment. Data from independent repeat experiments are presented in Additional file 2, Figure S1 to demonstrate the reproducibility of these measurements in each cell line.
