Mitochondrial respiration was impaired in MOLM-13 while only temporary affected in MV-4-11. MOLM-13 and MV-4-11 cells were exposed to 200 μg/ml khat and 0.1 μM CPT for the indicated hours and O2 consumption measured by high-resolution respirometry. Cellular O2 was calculated from the recorded data as the time derivative of the oxygen content in the chamber, and results presented as percentages O2consumption per cell in treated cells as compared to untreated controls. This figure shows the results from one typical experiment.
