Circulating miRNAs derived from ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer-associated miRNAs are reported to be detected from blood (serum/plasma), urine, or ascites. MiRNAs in circulation display remarkable stability. They are encapsulated by membrane-enclosed vesicles such as exosomes and microvesicles, or bound to carrier protein or lipids such as Argonaute2 (Ago2) and HDL. miRNAs are protected by these miRNA-carriers from RNase in circulation [29, 59–62].
