The mechanism of autophagy regulating immune system. Autophagy can be up-regulated by the activation of innate immune receptors, including TLRs and NLRs. TLRs can activate TRIF/RIP1/p38MAPK, JNK and ERK signaling pathways, or in a MyD88-dependent manner to trigger autophagy. NLRs directly induce autophagy through recruiting and interacting with ATG16L1. In adaptive immunity, autophagy can be enhanced by antigen presentation, and autophagy activation facilitates the recruitment ATG8/LC3 to phagosome membrane, the fusion of phagosomes with lysosomes and the modification of phagosomal content, contributing to increased antigen presentation and adaptive immunity
